Enjoy autumn and winter this year and keep healthy!
You don’t need to go to New England to experience the glorious colours of autumn. Our Oxfordshire beech woods are a wonderful riot of colour in the autumn. A good way to lift the spirits, banish winter blues and get some healthy exercise is to get out on a crisp, sunny winter day and enjoy a walk in our lovely countryside. If you are not sure where to go you can check out the lively and varied programme of sixty walks and social events on offer from Henley and Goring Ramblers over this autumn and winter. You can join the group for short or longer local walks varying in length from 4 to 14 miles. There is also linear walking with a new long distance linear walk done over five winter weekends along the Greensands Way and sections of the Chiltern Way as day walks The group travel to London for a river walk from Kew to Hammersmith with the chance to visit the home of William Morris at Kelmscott House. Cardigan

Walking and social activities combine over the festive season with a Walk Leaders’ festive dinner, a carol service walk in the Kidmore End area and a Christmas cake walk starting at Woodcote. An annual winter lecture is held in January in Henley’s historic Chantry House. This year the subject is Curiosities of the Chilterns.

Away trips are not forgotten. The group have just come back from a trip to Dorset staying in a delightful hotel on the Jurassic coast. The first week in October brings the annual overseas trip, this year to Turkey and a short trip- to the Cotswolds in October is also in the programme. Planning for next year’s away trips is well advanced with the Gower peninsula in May, Exmoor in June and the Italian Dolomites in September.

South Oxfordshire has one of the best maintained and marked network of footpaths in the country. Ramblers work with the Chiltern Society in the continuous effort needed to keep things that way, to improve paths and to deal with new problems as they arise.

We are a friendly group and with the Chilterns and the Thames in our area we attract and welcome walkers from all over Oxfordshire and other counties. With over 30 walk leaders we can deliver on our policy of providing walks to suit a wide range of tastes and abilities. We produce our own lively newsletters, which keep members in touch with what we’ve been up to and what we are planning for the future.
